Mammy Apple Jelly is made from mammy apple or mamey sapote fruit. The natural fruit is also great to consume. In a pepper jelly, it is an exquisite choice of fruit, as it is naturally beautiful in color. My grandmother used to make a wonderful jam to go with fresh-baked home-made bread. So when I make this pepper jelly, it brings back great childhood memories. You can try it with a sharp cheese on a cracker. Or, also try it with sum sum bread and cream cheese, or how about a slice of Trini coconut sweet bread topped with cold-cut ham.

The fruit of choice is the mammee apple, also commonly known as mammee, mammee apple, mamey, mamey apple, Santo Domingo apricot, tropical apricot, or South American apricot. The tree is a relative of the mangosteen. The plant originally comes from tropical South America.
